Hey,

I am not a Toyota guy but I would love to get into a buggy relatively cheaply. What are your guy's thoughts on the F-Toy buggy, is it a good value? How capable is it? What are its limits? What does it do well and what does it suck at?

Do any of the Toyota guys in the area know much about the Formula Toyota rock crawling class? I have read the vehicle rules and found that the engine needs to be a Toyota 20r, 21ru, 22r, 22re engine and a 20r/22r hybrid is allowed. Which engine would be the best and what would I be able to get one out of?

Transmission /Transfer case:
Any Toyota makes or models manual or automatic transmission
Any Toyota gear driven mini truck case or combination of cases
Any manufactures gear set.
Any gear ratio
Dual case adapter must be commercially available (why dual cases)
Any commercially available output shaft is allowed.

What drive train combination would be the best?

I could buy a F-toy build already from someone and possibly deal with other peoples junk or I could build one.

If I were to buy one what should I be looking for? Besides is the fab work of good quality. Which engine/trans/transfer case/axles? What upgrades to the drive train would be beneficial. What suspension upgrades work and what does not?

So, if I were to build one what are your thoughts on a donor vehicle? Should I just start with a frame and buy other components and piece it together to get a good build. On the other had would it be better if I took my time and found a specific model/year of truck/Fourrunner to buy.

Any info. would be great.

Thanks,

Mike

MIke check out the Formula Toy section at Pirate 4x4, would be the best place for answers. Have been thinking about the same thing as well.

My buddy is selling his buggy. I can get you the full specs later. I think he only wants 4 or 5 grand. It is toyota powered and has a toyota tranny. I think it has (a) marlin box(es).

I have the spec sheet at work.
